Oil refineries in Russia on fire, Zelensky reacts

Ukraine conducted strikes against two Russian oil refineries on Saturday evening, continuing its campaign targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces struck the Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, in addition to another refinery located in the Yaroslavl region. According to a post from Zelensky on X, the strikes are part of ongoing operations designed to reduce Russia’s capacity to sustain its military efforts.

He stated that these actions represent long-term sanctions that diminish resources available to Russia’s war machine, moving the effort closer to achieving peace. The President also shared video footage purporting to show the strikes, which displayed visible plumes of black smoke and fire from the targeted facilities. Previously, the Emergency Operations Center for the Krasnodar region had reported on the incidents.

These coordinated attacks underscore Ukraine’s continued focus on degrading key industrial assets within Russia. By targeting major oil processing facilities, the objective appears to be disrupting the supply chain and economic stability of the Russian state. The repeated strikes against these vital refineries are intended to place increasing strain on Russia’s energy sector, impacting its overall operational capabilities.
