Prime Minister Albin Kurti has demanded a thorough investigation into the deaths of the Bytyqi brothers—Yll, Agron, and Mehmet—stressing that achieving justice for them remains a commitment for the Republic of Kosovo and the international community. Speaking during a commemorative ceremony held on the Prime Minister’s balcony, the event marked the 27th anniversary of the three Bytyqi brothers’ passing. During the ceremony, Kurti characterized the Bytyqi brothers’ history as a potent symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and the struggle for freedom.
He recalled that the three men, who held American citizenship and were of Kosovar descent, served in the voluntary unit “Atlantic” of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Their participation was central to the liberation efforts against the Serbian regime. Kurti also paid tribute to a specific humanitarian act carried out by the brothers.
He specifically mentioned their actions on April 23, 1999, when they provided assistance to a Roma family as they were departing Kosovo. The Prime Minister’s address underscored the enduring importance of remembering their contributions to the nation’s history. The call for a full investigation continues to emphasize the unresolved nature of their deaths.
