One of the accused changes life in the tragic case in Kočan

Ljupčo Grnčišťanov, a man previously accused in the investigation surrounding the Kočan tragedy, has reportedly died. According to reports from TV21, Grnčišťanov was 54 years old. His connection to the high-profile case stems from allegations of serious misconduct related to the incident.

Grnčišťanov held the position of Chief Inspector, or Head of the Inspection Service, within the Directorate for Protection and Rescue. He occupied this role from January 15, 2013, until March 16, 2025. As part of the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the Kočan tragedy, he was formally accused of the criminal charge of “Serious crimes against public security.”

Details regarding his legal involvement indicate that Grnčišťanov spent a period of 77 days in effective pre-trial detention.

Following this initial period, he was placed under house arrest for approximately 14 months. His death marks the passing of an individual who was central to the accusations within this complex case. The reports confirm that the legal scrutiny surrounding the tragedy continued to involve several parties, including those who were accused of involvement.
