Orban: I will never be able to become the Prime Minister of Hungary

The Hungarian Parliament recently passed legislation colloquially known as the “Orban Law,” which imposes a maximum eight-year term limit for the office of prime minister. This legislative measure would preclude former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from potentially returning to the role. Following the law’s passage, Viktor Orbán issued a statement accepting responsibility for the current political climate.

Regarding his future role within his own party, he indicated that he would not provide a direct answer. Specifically, Orbán stated that he would no longer be eligible to serve as the prime minister of Hungary under the new regulations. Despite this development, Orbán declared his intention to continue supporting what he believes is in the best interest of the nation.

However, he also signaled his opposition to any decisions he deems contrary to Hungary’s national interest, according to media reports. The enactment of this law marks a significant shift following a prolonged period of Viktor Orbán’s tenure as prime minister. The legislation fundamentally alters the parameters governing the leadership of the country, effectively capping the duration of service for the prime minister.
