The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) issued a statement on Friday expressing concern regarding the planned continuation of the Kosovo Assembly’s constitutive session on Saturday. The PDK accused the Vetëvendosje Movement and its leader, Albin Kurti, of violating constitutional order. In its reaction, the PDK asserted that proceeding with the session after the established constitutional deadline for the constitution of the Assembly contravenes the rulings of the Constitutional Court.
The party stated, “The Democratic Party of Kosovo expresses its concern over the repeated violation of constitutional order by the Vetëvendosje Movement, which today refused to respect the deadline set by the Constitutional Court for the constitution of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.”
According to the PDK’s statement, the Constitutional Court had previously determined that the Assembly needed to be constituted within a 30-day period. The party’s objection centers on the perceived disregard for the legal timelines set by the highest court in Kosovo. This disagreement highlights a significant political dispute concerning adherence to constitutional mandates within the country’s governance structure.
The PDK’s stance underscores its view that the process of forming the Assembly must strictly follow the rulings issued by the constitutional judiciary.
