MPB Macedonia has reported that the Foreign Office for Criminal Matters in Gostivar has initiated criminal proceedings against two individuals, identified as T.D. (55) and Z.D. (54), who are nationals of Turkey.
The charges filed relate to the alleged criminal act of robbery. According to the filing, the accused are accused of operating over an extended period, allegedly from 2019 through 2026. During this time frame, the pair are suspected of coercing a 66-year-old man and his 41-year-old son in Gostivari.
The core allegation involves the theft of gold totaling 43 kilograms and 800 grams. Authorities further noted that the accused allegedly manipulated the valuation of the metal, claiming it was raw melted gold rather than processed products, a discrepancy that allegedly resulted in a significantly higher market valuation for the stolen material. Beyond the physical theft, the investigation also covers allegations of coercion through intimidation.
Specifically, the report details that the two men are accused of using blackmail and issuing threatening messages. These actions were allegedly directed at the son and his family during February 2025, further pressuring the victims. The filing indicates that the legal process has formally charged the individuals with these multiple criminal offenses.
The proceedings represent a significant legal action concerning transnational financial crime and coercion within the region.
