A 43-year-old man from Skopje was apprehended on Friday morning in the border area separating North Macedonia and Kosovo on suspicion of smuggling. During the operation, law enforcement seized two transport vehicles. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the incident occurred around 8:00 AM when police observed individuals transferring goods at the border line situated between the villages of Tanushë and Mjak.
The Ministry’s statement noted that “Police observed individuals loading and exchanging goods between a ‘Volkswagen’ transport vehicle with Kosovo license plates and a ‘Peugeot’ vehicle with Skopje license plates.”
Upon observing the activity, police intervened immediately to halt the vehicles and identify the people involved. This intervention led to the arrest of A.A., a 43-year-old resident of Skopje, who was driving the Peugeot vehicle. The seizure of the vehicles and the arrest underscore an ongoing effort by authorities to monitor and regulate cross-border trade.
The incident highlights the routine enforcement activities conducted by police at the border to combat illicit smuggling operations between North Macedonia and Kosovo.
