Rama reacts to the amendment against the construction of the resort in Zvërnec

Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, responded to the vote in the European Parliament concerning an amendment proposed by certain left-wing MEPs regarding a resort development in Zvërnec. In his statement, Rama asserted that Europe, and specifically the European Parliament, holds a high regard for Albania. He noted that the Parliament effectively distinguished between the “digital storm of disinformation” and the protected status of the Vjosë-Nartë area, which, according to him, has no connection to the development proposed in the amendment.

Rama criticized the outcome, stating that the MEPs had passed the amendment with a significant vote margin. He further commented on the broader relationship between Albania and the EU, suggesting that while the Parliament values the country, its actions are contradictory. He concluded by expressing the belief that despite perceived flaws, the European Parliament remains committed to encouraging Albania’s prompt membership in the EU.

The Prime Minister’s comments centered on the perceived discrepancy between the EU’s stated support for Albania and the specific provisions included in the controversial amendment debated within the Parliament.
