Rama: Serbia is not ready to accept the reality that there is no longer anything called Kosovo and Metohja, but the Republic of Kosovo

Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, asserted in an interview with Euronews that Serbia bears responsibility for the ongoing dialogue concerning Kosovo. According to Rama, Serbia is unwilling to accept the current geopolitical reality, stating, “There is no longer anything called ‘Kosovo and Metohija, but only the Republic of Kosovo.'” Rama emphasized that the fundamental reality has shifted, asserting that the entity is now recognized as the Republic of Kosovo. Addressing the issue of international recognition, Rama responded when questioned about the fact that five European Union countries do not recognize Kosovo’s independence.

He characterized this limited recognition as a minor issue, suggesting that the fact that five out of 27 nations do not acknowledge the status does not negate the broader international acceptance of the reality. The Albanian Prime Minister’s comments place the onus of the stalled dialogue squarely on Serbia. His statement implies that the continued impasse stems from Serbia’s resistance to acknowledging the established facts on the ground regarding the status of Kosovo.

Rama’s remarks underscore a divergence in perspectives regarding the nomenclature and sovereign status of the region, framing the current situation as a direct consequence of Serbia’s refusal to align with the prevailing international reality.
