Pristina’s Mayor, Përparim Rama, has announced the initiation of procedures to establish a new municipal public enterprise specifically for waste management and cleaning services within the capital city. This move follows difficulties encountered with a previously proposed modernization project valued at €74.1 million, which was intended to overhaul the city’s entire cleaning and waste system through the German Development Bank (KfW). During a presentation, Rama, accompanied by Deputy Mayors Besianë Musmurati and Florian Dushi, presented the necessary documentation and timeline for the new local initiative.
The Mayor asserted that the larger KfW agreement remained stalled due to what he claimed was the failure of the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, to sign the necessary paperwork. The announcement signals a pivot toward a locally managed solution for critical municipal services, suggesting that the established international framework was not proceeding as anticipated.
