Remembrances of the Austrian journalist for Baftjar Kollozo – “The Serb Killer”!

Albanian Smuggler Baftjar Kollovozi Recognized for Military Actions

Jonuz Kola reported on encounters with Baftjar Kollovozi, a prominent figure within Albanian tribal communities, drawing from observations detailed in the 1936 publication Brandherd Balkan. The account describes Kollovozi as a seasoned smuggler, characterized by his slender build and possession of a new rifle alongside a supply of cartridges. Kollovozi, accompanied by an assistant, recently emerged from a mountain cave.

He is regarded by Albanians as a national hero and a tribal captain. Records indicate that Kollovozi has been responsible for the deaths of 118 Serbs. These casualties were inflicted through methods other than aerial attacks, specifically utilizing rocks.

The description notes Kollovozi’s physical appearance, highlighting his gleaming teeth, suggesting recent dental work. He expressed pleasure at being in the company of a senior figure, acknowledging prior knowledge of his reputation. Witnesses reported that Kollovozi’s actions were driven by a sense of ownership rather than a desire for violence.

His assistant was present with him at the time.
