Joint security patrols involving both Serbian and North Macedonia police forces are scheduled to commence in Ohrid starting tomorrow and continuing through August 31st. This cooperative initiative was officially announced by the Ohrid Police Department, following consultative meetings held with the Ministry of Interior of Macedonia and representatives from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia. The primary objective of establishing these mixed patrols is to bolster public safety and security throughout the region, particularly during the peak summer tourist season.
Authorities noted that the increased presence is intended to safeguard all local citizens as well as the significant number of Serbian tourists who visit Ohrid annually. Operational guidelines have been established to ensure seamless integration between the two forces. During these joint patrols, officers from the Serbian police contingent will operate strictly in accordance with the national legislation of the Republic of Macedonia.
Furthermore, the participating police personnel are instructed not to carry weapons and are designated to provide support services to the local Macedonian police officers. This coordinated effort underscores a commitment to maintaining a stable and secure environment for the large influx of seasonal visitors to the historic city of Ohrid.
