Kosovar judoka Shpati Zekaj began the Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026 with a victory. In the initial round of the up to 100 kilograms category, Zekaj defeated Aleksandar Tomiq of Montenegro, advancing to the quarterfinals. This victory was secured after Tomiq suffered three losses, and Zekaj faced the judoka representing Peja.
For the quarterfinals, the judoka Zekaj is scheduled to compete against Ben Ghares from Tunisia. In other developments at the Games, judokas Fatjona Kasapi, Akil Gjakova, and Flaka Loxha were awarded bronze medals on Thursday (Friday). Additionally, Laura Fazliu is slated to compete on Friday.
