Shpati Zekaj wins bronze medal at World Cup in Sarajevo

Kosovar judoka Shpati Zekaj won the bronze medal at the World Judo Cup held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the bronze medal bout, Zekaj defeated German opponent Pierre Ederer via Ippon, securing a significant addition to Kosovo’s international sporting achievements. Zekaj’s path to the podium involved several competitive matches.

He began the tournament with a victory in the first round, defeating Russian Denis Bakanov using two Wazaaris. In the quarterfinals, Zekaj faced Bulgarian Boris Georgiev, who won the match with a Yuko. Despite this setback, the Kosovar judoka advanced through the repechage round.

During this stage, zekaj defeated Serbian Aleksandar Stojkov, earning him a berth in the bronze medal contest. In the decisive third-place match, zekaj successfully defended his position, defeating Pierre Ederer with an Ippon. This victory concluded his participation in the tournament with the attainment of a bronze medal.
