North Macedonia’s EU Path Discussed at Diplomatic Forum

Antalya – President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova addressed North Macedonia’s progress toward European Union membership during discussions at the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, commencing today and continuing over the next three days. The forum is expected to focus on key geopolitical developments. Siljanovska spoke about the challenges facing North Macedonia’s accession process, referencing the established Copenhagen Criteria.

Adopted in 1993, these criteria outline the standards required for EU membership, beginning with post-conflict issues and culminating in democratic governance, the rule of law, human rights, and minority protections. During her remarks, President siljanovska-davkova highlighted concerns regarding the potential use of veto power by existing member states. She stated, “If the members of the European Union implement new standards and criteria, imagine reacting with a veto against candidate countries.”

The President’s comments reflect ongoing discussions surrounding the criteria and the impact of member state decisions on the enlargement process.

The Diplomatic Forum is anticipated to provide a platform for examining these issues and exploring potential solutions.
