Starting today, motorcycles up to 125cc will be driven with category “B” license in Macedonia

Amendments to the Law on Road Traffic Safety have granted Republic of Macedonia citizens holding a Category “B” driver’s license the right to operate specific types of motorcycles. Under the updated regulations, license holders can now operate automatic transmission motorcycles classified in Category “A1,” provided the engine capacity does not exceed 125 cc and the power output is limited to 11 kW. These legislative changes were advanced by the ZNAM Movement parliamentary group, gaining support from the majority of deputies before receiving an overwhelming vote in the Assembly on April 8 of this year.

Furthermore, the administrative procedures required by the Ministry of Interior to implement the regulation have been completed, allowing the law to take effect today following its publication in the Official Gazette. According to ZNAM deputy Pavle Arsovski, the revised law clarifies and expands driver privileges. The update specifically addresses access to lower-powered motorcycles, making the transition smoother for existing license holders.

The new provisions redefine the scope of Category “A1,” linking it to the existing Category “B” license for specific automatic models. This regulatory adjustment modifies the requirements for owning and operating two-wheeled vehicles within the defined power and size parameters. The changes are effective immediately, requiring all relevant parties to adhere to the updated guidelines concerning vehicle classification and necessary driver licensing categories.
