Two hundred and eighty high school students in Sogut, Bilecik, Turkey, recently completed a ten-square-meter mural that vividly portrays a seascape. The artwork was constructed using approximately 50,000 discarded bottle caps, a collection effort that spanned about seven months. The project commenced in September 2025, engaging the participating students in a sustained initiative.
During the collection phase, the students systematically gathered the plastic bottle caps from the community. Once the materials were amassed, the students organized the caps meticulously by both color and size, preparing them for the mural’s creation. Halil Dulger, one of the students involved, stated that the process of creating the mural was enjoyable for all participants.
The initiative served as both an artistic endeavor and an environmental action, transforming waste materials into a large-scale piece of public art. By utilizing discarded bottle caps, the students demonstrated a commitment to recycling and sustainability within their local community. The resulting mural not only beautifies the area but also highlights the potential for community engagement in waste reduction.
