Sule returns from retirement, signs with amateur squad: I want to enjoy football again

Despite having publicly announced his retirement from professional football at the beginning of May, Niklas Süle has chosen to extend his involvement in the sport. Shortly after the expiration of his contract with Borussia Dortmund, the former German international confirmed that he will continue playing, though at a level removed from major professional competition. According to reports from Sky, the 30-year-old defender has finalized an agreement with SV Tiefenbach.

This club competes within the Kreisliga, which constitutes one of the amateur football leagues in the Baden-Württemberg region. Süle personally confirmed the move, stating that his decision stems from a desire to experience the sport in a fundamentally different manner. He explained that his goal is to focus solely on the athletic aspect of the game, moving away from the pressures associated with professional business and finances.

“I am looking forward to finally experiencing football from a completely different perspective, where it is only about the sport and not about business or money,” Süle stated. He also noted that two of his close friends are members of the SV Tiefenbach squad. This transition marks a distinct shift from the high-stakes environment of top-tier professional football.

While his initial announcement signaled the end of his elite career, this commitment demonstrates a continued dedication to playing the sport at a community level. His decision allows him to remain involved with football while pursuing a different focus outside of professional football structures.
