Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Driton Sulejmani of VLEN, criticized BDI for its perceived silence concerning the stalled sewage project in Zaja. The infrastructure project, which received over 9 million euros in funding from the European Union, has not been completed despite the disbursement of funds and the passing of established deadlines. Sulejmani highlighted that local residents continue to lack essential sewage infrastructure.
He accused former officials of a lack of accountability regarding the project’s failure to materialize. According to Sulejmani, the silence from certain parties raises concerns regarding the proper utilization of the allocated European funds. He stated that the lack of public explanation regarding the disposition of the more than 9 million euros of public money is problematic.
Sulejmani contrasted the public discourse surrounding integration and adherence to European standards with the current lack of answers concerning the sewage project. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the silence from involved parties makes it difficult to ascertain the whereabouts of the EU funds. His remarks suggested that the failure to account for the significant financial investment undermines the credibility of those promoting European integration standards.
