A decade ago, leaders from the Western Balkans initiated a strategic shift by placing the region’s youth at the core of its development agenda. Recognizing the potential of structured dialogue and joint initiatives to build mutual trust and unlock new economic and social opportunities, these leaders established the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO). This commitment materialized on April 4, 2016, during the Berlin Process Summit held in Paris.
This foundational vision has matured significantly over the past ten years, transforming RYCO into a prominent network driving regional cooperation within the Western Balkans. The organization now serves as a vital hub, connecting over 85,000 young individuals through diverse partnerships, shared projects, and developmental initiatives that continue to influence the region’s future trajectory. As the sole intergovernmental body in the Western Balkans mandated exclusively for youth engagement, RYCO plays a crucial role in fostering sustainable development across member states.
Its mandate extends beyond simple networking; it actively promotes civic engagement, skills development, and policy dialogue tailored to the needs of the next generation of leaders. By providing a dedicated platform for youth participation, RYCO solidifies mechanisms for intra-regional dialogue, ensuring that the perspectives of young people are integrated into broader political and economic strategies aimed at collective progress.
