Thaçi requested release from prison and offered a 50,000 euro bribe, the Prosecution opposes

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office has opposed Hashim Thaçi’s request for temporary release from prison. According to American Chief Prosecutor Kimberly Est, Thaçi should remain in pre-trial detention. Est stated that the continued and swift progress of the judicial process, including the timeline for all final motions concerning evidence, supports the continuation of Thaçi’s detention.

Thaçi’s request for conditional release, which included proposals such as a €50,000 bond and a decision at a later date, was countered by the prosecutor. The American prosecutor also highlighted the risk that Thaçi might commit further criminal acts or interfere with ongoing procedures. “The ongoing findings regarding the existence of risks under Article 41(6)(b) attributed to Thaçi in this matter remain valid,” Est asserted.

This indicates the legal basis for maintaining his incarceration. The prosecutor’s argument centers on ensuring the integrity of the ongoing investigation and trial proceedings. The opposition suggests that his continued presence in prison is necessary to safeguard the judicial process.
