For forty days, demonstrators have been protesting on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the broader political establishment. During the most recent protest, the head of the State Police, Skënder Hita, was in attendance. This event followed reports linking the police to negative reviews targeting Albanian businesses, during which authorities reportedly identified over 10,000 social media accounts.
The State Police itself was criticized from the podium, with organizers alleging that the force had detained several participants. Despite these tensions, the protesters maintained their resolve, stating they would not vacate the square until the resignation of the political figures. Furthermore, national protests have been scheduled for Saturday.
The 40th demonstration concluded with a march through the capital’s main thoroughfares. Throughout the march, calls for the resignation of the prime minister and other officials were voiced by the demonstrators. The protest activity continued until approximately midnight.
