The Court: The arrest of the suspects for the Reçak Massacre opens a late chapter of justice

During a recent Government meeting, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed the apprehension of five Serbian Police members suspected of involvement in the Reçak Massacre. Kurti acknowledged the efforts of the nation’s security institutions while simultaneously expressing concern over the protracted delay in addressing the case, which has spanned over two decades. Kurti noted that the recent arrests are the culmination of a six-month investigation, an outcome he stated deserved recognition.

However, he underscored the significant concern that tangible action had not been taken to fully investigate the incident for many years. “Nearly 27 and a half years after the Reçak Massacre, five Serbian Police members have been arrested,” Kurti stated. “While on one hand we congratulate the Police on the arrest of the suspects after a six-month investigation, we cannot fail to point out the fact that until the year…”

The statement highlighted the contrast between the successful recent investigation and the prolonged period of inaction regarding the events of the massacre.

The remarks from Kurti emphasized the importance of accountability, praising the arrests while maintaining scrutiny over the institutional delays that preceded them. The focus remained on the need for comprehensive justice following the historical incident.
