The Hasis community played a substantial role in the struggle for the liberation of Kosovo from Serbia. During the difficult period of 1998–1999, households across the Hasis population opened their homes to shelter and support the young people of Kosovo who were actively engaged in resisting the conflict. A notable aspect of this period was the unity demonstrated between the Hasis residing in Kosovo and those in Albania, who cooperated to provide mutual aid.
Twenty-seven years later, the united Hasis community observed the commemoration of 43 national martyrs, a group that included 14 individuals from the Hasis of Albania. In the late 1990s, the border separating the Hasis of Kosovo from their counterparts in Albania became a critical conduit for the pursuit of freedom and national unity. Many young men and women from Albania, previously separated by a physical border, joined the effort to support their brethren.
The commitment shown by the Hasis across both regions exemplifies a deep historical bond. The support network extended beyond mere shelter; it represented a collective effort to sustain the fight for Kosovo’s self-determination. The memory of these sacrifices, particularly the national martyrs, remains a central element of the community’s shared history, underscoring the enduring solidarity within the Hasis people.
