During the recent Sarajevo Film Festival, a panel discussion titled “Culture that Connects – European Opportunities for the Creative Industries” was hosted as part of the “BE with YOU” campaign. The session concentrated on examining how European Union initiatives, particularly the “Creative Europe” program, can bolster the career development pathways for young professionals within the creative sector. The discussion highlighted the tangible impact of EU funding across the region.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina alone, the Creative Europe program has channeled over 7 million euros in support. This funding has successfully supported more than 100 diverse projects over the past four years. Beneficiaries have included major cultural institutions such as the Sarajevo Film Festival itself, the National Theatre of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Banja Luka, and the Cultural Center in Trebinje, among others.
Panelists emphasized that cultural exchange transcends political boundaries. They noted that programs like Creative Europe and Erasmus+ function as vital tools that promote artistic collaboration. The presence of the film industry within this discussion underscored the sector’s importance in cultural dissemination.
Ultimately, the panel reinforced the idea that culture is inherently borderless. By providing structured financial and developmental support, these EU initiatives aim to foster a robust and interconnected cultural ecosystem, ensuring that emerging talent in Sarajevo and across the Balkans have the resources necessary to advance their artistic careers.
