The European Commission says there is no formal decision to freeze funds for Serbia.

European Commission Denies Funds Frozen for Serbia

Brussels – The European Commission (EC) stated on Monday that there is no formal decision to freeze financial instruments related to the EU’s Growth Plan for Serbia. Spokesman Markus Lammers clarified the situation, asserting, “There is no decision to freeze the funds or anything like that.”

The EC routinely assesses the conditions for support outlined within the Growth Plan’s financial instruments. This ongoing evaluation is a standard component of the implementation process, applied consistently throughout the program’s payment phase.

Lammers emphasized that this assessment includes a continuous review of Serbia’s progress. The European Commission has previously expressed concerns regarding the approval of specific legislation in Serbia. These concerns are a regular part of the monitoring process associated with the Growth Plan.

“This is part of the normal implementation of these instruments and is applied throughout the process, including the Growth Plan in the payment phase,” Lammers added. The EC continues to monitor Serbia’s adherence to the agreed-upon conditions for continued support.
