The provision of night pharmacy services in Pristina, which was suspended nearly two years ago, is reportedly set for reinstatement. In parallel efforts to standardize healthcare access, the Chamber of Pharmacists of Kosovo has joined a working group with the Ministry of Health. The primary objective of this collaboration is the establishment of a comprehensive, nationwide pharmacy guard schedule.
This proposed schedule aims to clearly define the hours during which essential pharmaceutical services are available to the public across Kosovo. Currently, while the central pharmacy adheres to defined operating hours, leaving the facility closed after a certain time, 24-hour services are available at other, unscheduled locations. The Director of Health, Bujar Gashi, has confirmed that the services previously provided by the night pharmacy guard system will resume, indicating a return to more consistent coverage.
The development of a standardized national schedule is viewed as a critical step toward improving public access to essential medication. This new framework seeks to create predictability for citizens relying on round-the-clock pharmaceutical support. The Ministry and the Chamber anticipate that the finalized schedule will provide a clear roadmap for both patients and pharmacists, ensuring reliable care, particularly during the night hours.
