The Humanitarian Rights Fund in Kosovo responds to “inaccurate claims” made by Shkëlzen Gashi and the exhibition organizers.

The “Massacres in Kosovo 1998-1999” exhibition was removed from Skanderbeg Square in Pristina today by municipal teams following significant public responses regarding inaccuracies within its data and content. Concerns extended to the presentation of information concerning the tragic events at Dubrava Prison. Numerous criticisms were leveled against the exhibition, prompting a direct response from its creator, Shkelzen Gashi.

Gashi asserted that no one had explicitly claimed the Humanitarian Rights Fund had indicated that the 48 deceased individuals were engaged in combat at the time of their deaths. He clarified that the exhibition did not also assert these people were killed while actively fighting. Gashi attributed the removal of the exhibition from the square to the resulting reaction.

The Humanitarian Rights Fund in Kosovo itself subsequently issued a statement. This organization’s response further fueled the debate surrounding the presentation of information related to the documented human rights violations. The removal underscores the sensitivity of this historical period and the importance of accurate representation within the exhibition’s narrative.
