The Basic Court in Pristina has ordered the reopening of judicial proceedings in a criminal case concerning Milorad Gjoković. The charges brought against Gjoković relate to alleged war crimes committed against the Albanian civilian population. This judicial directive was issued because the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo has reported the inability to secure a statement from a key witness, Nurija Krasniqi.
It is noted that Krasniqi had previously provided testimony regarding the matter at a police station following the conclusion of the conflict. Presiding Judge Donika Shala Abdyli stated that the court determined her testimony is crucial for the proper gathering of evidence pertaining to the alleged war crimes. Judge Abdyli specified the need to locate her recorded statement, particularly those held at the police station in Peja, as well as records associated with international organizations such as UNMIK and EULEX.
The reopening of the case underscores the ongoing effort to establish accountability for atrocities committed during the war.
