Armend Zemaj, a representative of the Democratic League of Kosovo, has criticized the government of Albin Kurti following the absence of Minister of Health Arben Vita from a parliamentary committee meeting concerning the draft Law on Mandatory Health Insurance. The committee was convened to review the proposed legislation within the health sector. Zemaj characterized the government’s actions as “deceptive,” citing the minister’s failure to attend as a demonstration of irresponsibility and populism.
He argued that the absence occurred during a critical review of one of the most significant laws impacting the health sector. “The lack of consultation, debate, and analysis surrounding this important law damages both the health sector and the interests of patients and citizens,” Zemaj stated. The Democratic League representative expressed concern that the government is proceeding without adequate consideration of the proposed changes.
The parliamentary committee is scheduled to continue its deliberations on the health insurance law. The government has not yet issued a formal response to Zemaj’s criticism.
