The new version makes the BMW M2 faster than ever

The BMW M2 is set to undergo a significant mechanical evolution with the introduction of the M2 xDrive, marking a departure from the model’s historical rear-wheel-drive configuration. This updated version, debuting in 2027, will offer the acclaimed coupe with all-wheel drive capability for the first time. The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale this summer.

Powering the M2 xDrive is a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine that generates 473 horsepower. In terms of drivetrain options, the M2 xDrive is exclusively paired with the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. For enthusiasts preferring the traditional setup, the manual transmission will remain available only on the standard rear-wheel-drive model.

The addition of a second wheel with motive drive results in notable performance enhancements. The M2 xDrive demonstrates a measurable advantage over its RWD counterpart, achieving times 0.3 seconds quicker, clocking in at 3.6 seconds compared to the RWD model’s 3.9 seconds. Furthermore, the coupe is capable of reaching 200 km/h in 12.8 seconds.

This mechanical update positions the M2 to maintain its high-performance status while broadening its dynamic capabilities through the inclusion of advanced all-wheel-drive technology.
