Kosovo Deputy Criticizes Satirical Broadcast Targeting Roma Communities
Kosovo Assembly member Deputy Erxhan Galushi addressed the legislature today following a segment on the satirical program “Logjikonomia.” Galushi, chairman of the Forward Movement of the Roma of Kosovo (LPRK), expressed concern regarding the program’s presentation of the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities. During his remarks, Galushi clarified that his criticism is directed at the impact of the broadcast, rather than a personal attack on the program or its participants. He argued that satire can exacerbate the challenges faced by already marginalized communities.
Specifically, he highlighted instances where humor relies on harmful stereotypes concerning the Roma community, the Ashkali, and the Egyptian communities. “The issue emerges when comedic portrayals perpetuate negative perceptions of these communities,” Galushi stated. “For years, we have observed representations that reinforce existing biases.” He emphasized the need for responsible engagement with satire and its potential to deepen societal divisions.
The deputy’s comments followed a broadcast that was described by some as a “mocking” presentation of the targeted communities. The focus remains on the potential impact of such portrayals on vulnerable groups.
