Mërgim Lushtaku, the elected Deputy from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, has warned of potential demonstrations concerning the delays surrounding the constitution of the national parliament. Lushtaku stated that expectations were set for the continuation of the constitutional session to resume on Monday. However, he asserted that the Assembly of Kosovo has exhibited patterns of constitutional disregard.
Speaking on the matter, he noted that his parliamentary group had been awaiting clarification regarding the lack of an official invitation to discuss the parliament’s constitution within a 48-hour window. Lushtaku characterized these governmental actions as an act of “deplorable arrogance” by the ruling majority. He further argued that the violation of constitutional norms has become a routine occurrence, despite the significant sacrifices, opportunities, and historical struggles endured to achieve independence and democracy for Kosovo.
Lushtaku cautioned that normalizing such procedural deviations is detrimental to the state’s foundational principles. His warning suggests that if the procedural issues concerning the parliament are not addressed, it could escalate into public protests. The deputy stressed that allowing constitutional breaches to become accepted practice represents a significant misstep for the nation.
