The process for the restoration of the former “Navy House” has begun; the building will be transformed into the Museum of Mitrovica.

The Interinstitutional and Professional Working Group has commenced its mandate to oversee the comprehensive development of a major cultural project in Mitrovica. This working group is tasked with designing the necessary assignment and establishing the precise technical conditions, criteria, and professional standards governing the conservation, restoration, and eventual musealization of the former “Navy House” structure located in Mitrovica. According to the Director of the Directorate for Culture, Youth, and Sport in the Municipality of Mitrovica, the facility has been designated by the Communal Council to serve as the permanent headquarters for the Mitrovica Museum.

Officials highlighted that this undertaking marks a significant development for the municipality, as it represents the first time a process of this complexity—involving multiple relevant field experts and responsible institutional bodies—is being implemented within Mitrovica. The primary objective of the group’s work is to build a robust, foundational framework that will guide the entire realization of the project. The scope encompasses not only the physical restoration of the historic building but also the establishment of modern museum protocols.

This systematic approach ensures that the preservation efforts meet recognized professional standards, thereby safeguarding the cultural heritage represented by the former site. The successful completion of this foundational work is critical for transforming the former structure into a long-term cultural asset for the community of Mitrovica.
