Abdullah Prapashtica, a figure associated with the early development of the Albanian political movement in Kosovo, recently recounted his personal history of political involvement. Speaking on the “Dosjet” program broadcast by RTVDukagjini, Prapashtica detailed the historical and social circumstances that motivated his commitment to political action and the subsequent establishment of a new local organization during the 1970s. According to Prapashtica, the prevailing historical circumstances of the time were the determining factors behind the decisions made by him and his colleagues.
He noted that Kosovo was undergoing a period of transition, emerging from what he termed the “darkness of the Ranković era” and beginning a phase of advancement. However, he argued that the existing political status of the Albanian populace within the framework of Yugoslavia and Kosovo was insufficient for the region’s potential development. This perceived limitation in political representation and scope, he stated, necessitated a proactive response.
The group concluded that the existing structures were too narrow to allow the community to develop optimally. Therefore, the formation of a new, dedicated organization became a necessary step. Prapashtica’s account emphasizes that this organizational effort was a direct reaction to the socio-political climate, aiming to secure a broader platform for the Albanian people’s advancement through organized political means.
