Cocaine Use Rising in Kosovo, with Growing Concerns Over Minors

Kosovo is experiencing a concerning increase in the use of cocaine, according to experts at the Mediko-Psychotherapeutic Center “Labyrinth.” Executive Director Safet Blakaj highlighted the trend during an interview with Ekonomia Online, expressing worry about the expanding use and the increasingly younger age of individuals engaging with the drug. Blakaj noted that the first three months of 2026 mirrored the previous year with no significant changes in overall cocaine use. However, a slight uptick in the number of individuals seeking assistance was observed.

“While there was no essential difference from last year, we are seeing a discernible trend of increasing cocaine use,” Blakaj stated. The primary concern centers on the involvement of minors. The center has noted a growing number of young people requiring treatment related to cocaine use.

This development underscores a critical issue within Kosovo, demanding further investigation and preventative measures. The situation highlights the need for continued monitoring and targeted interventions to address the rising use of cocaine and mitigate its impact, particularly on vulnerable populations.
