Jusuf Azemi, Chairman of the Independent Union of the Private Sector, has issued a warning that technical workers employed in Pristina’s schools are preparing for a strike. The union stated that the workers plan to commence industrial action on September 1st if their salaries are not deposited into bank accounts by August 31st. According to Azemi, the core issue fueling the workers’ dissatisfaction is the failure to receive payments for the month of October.
He asserted that the Municipality of Pristina has not disbursed these salaries in compliance with contractual agreements. Azemi further referenced previous warnings issued by the union. He noted that back in June, the union had met with various institutions to address potential employment concerns, particularly regarding the transition of private companies.
At that time, the union had stressed the necessity of ensuring that workers would not face lapses in their employment contracts. The union’s warning highlights ongoing disputes between the private sector workforce and municipal authorities regarding timely compensation. The immediate threat centers on the non-payment of overdue salaries, which the workers expect to be resolved before the beginning of September to prevent operational disruption in the educational facilities.
