Thousands of lanterns illuminate the river, a magical spectacle in Maryland

Participants gathered along the Potomac River to prepare decorative lanterns, affixing personal messages, wishes, memories, and drawings to them before their evening release. As night fell, thousands of illuminated lanterns began to float across the surface of the Potomac, creating a distinctive spectacle and transforming the riverbank into a vast expanse of light. According to the official National Harbor calendar, this event occurred over two consecutive days, August 8th and 9th, in the SouthPointe area.

Photographs taken at the event depict the river covered by hundreds of thousands of points of light, with onlookers standing along the bank to watch the lanterns drift slowly across the water. The coordinated release of these lanterns provided a visually striking display, drawing large crowds to witness the illuminated spectacle upon the river.
