A joint operation conducted by the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) resulted in the arrest of four individuals on suspicion of abuse of office and corruption. According to the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, the detained individuals include two officials from the Foreigners Division, one official from the Civil Registration Agency, and one foreign national. Sveçla reported that the suspects are alleged to have provided services to various parties by circumventing established legal procedures in exchange for financial gain.
He confirmed that the combined effort between the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency led to the arrest of the aforementioned individuals. The operation specifically targeted misconduct within state institutions. The involvement of officials from both the Foreigners Division and the Civil Registration Agency suggests that the allegations concern the misuse of internal governmental processes.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a foreign national indicates the scope of the investigation may extend beyond domestic misconduct. The authorities maintain that the arrested individuals are suspected of engaging in corrupt practices, namely offering expedited or unauthorized services while bypassing mandatory legal protocols. These actions, according to the investigation, were undertaken for illicit financial benefit.
The Kosovo authorities continue their efforts to investigate and prosecute those accused of abusing their positions.
