Transformer failure in Suharekë, Muharremaj: Water supply to the city and several villages is at risk

The theft of an electrical transformer at the Pusi Atit Pumping Station has jeopardized the water supply for Suharekë and several adjacent villages. Bali Muharremaj, the mayor of the Municipality of Suharekë, issued a statement confirming that the equipment was stolen overnight. Specifically, the transformer that powered two essential water pumps was demolished and taken.

This damage has rendered the two pumps inoperable, creating a potential risk of restricted water service across the municipality and surrounding communities. According to the official notice, the areas potentially impacted by the disruption include Gelanca, Gjinoci, Leshani, Terrnja, Nepërbishti, and Shiroka. The loss of the transformer significantly impacts the operational capacity of the pumping station, making the reliable distribution of water a concern.

While the municipality is addressing the situation, Mayor Muharremaj’s announcement highlighted the immediate service disruption caused by the theft. The scale of the outage necessitates immediate repair or replacement of the stolen transformer to restore full functionality to the pumping system and safeguard the water supply for all residents in the affected zones.
