Trial for the murder in Gllogjan reopens, Koci reveals new evidence

The Basic Court in Peja has announced a decision to reopen the ongoing trial concerning a triple murder that occurred in Gllogjan in 2021. This determination was made during Friday’s judicial session, a day that was originally scheduled for the announcement of the verdict. According to the indictment filed by the Public Prosecutor’s office, the three defendants—Halil, Kastriot, and Kreshnik Mehmetaj—are suspected of orchestrating and executing the violent attack in coordination with one another.

The prosecution alleges that the motive behind the crime was revenge. Arianit Koci, the lawyer representing the victims’ family, indicated that the family anticipated the verdict would be delivered during the current session. However, Koci stated that the court ultimately decided to reopen the proceedings to allow for the verification of an additional piece of evidence.

He noted the procedural shift, explaining that the reopening was necessary for the court to fully assess the new material before reaching a conclusion. The court’s decision to reopen the case alters the immediate legal timeline, shifting the focus from judgment to further evidentiary review. This development means that the final determination regarding the charges of murder and conspiracy will be delayed as the judicial body proceeds with examining the supplementary evidence.
