Turkish national arrested in Macedonia for smuggling leather materials

The Mobile Police Brigade (MPB) in Macedonia reported an operation conducted on June 10, 2026, involving its mobile unit for compensatory measures. The team was deployed near the Department for Border Issues and Migration, specifically operating within the region of SPB Kumanovo. During the course of their patrol, the unit intercepted a vehicle near the Kumanovo – Kriva Pallanka route around 4:15 PM.

The stopped vehicle was identified as a “Mercedes-Benz” bearing Kosovo license plates. Upon initial verification, officers determined that the vehicle’s point of origin was T.B.K. (26), originating from Turkey.

A subsequent inspection of the cargo within the vehicle revealed six bags. These bags were found to contain a total of 118 pieces of leather material. Following the discovery, authorities initiated formal procedures.

Under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kumanovo, the individual associated with the vehicle was subsequently deprived of liberty. This action was taken in accordance with Article 278-b of the Penal Code of the Republic of Macedonia. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by Macedonian law enforcement to monitor border crossings and regulate the movement of goods within the region.

The detailed inspection process highlights the coordination between various state bodies responsible for border security and compliance within the country.
