Twenty-seven years have passed since the killing of 86 civilians in Kralan, Gjakova. The event remains a tragic incident, marking a significant date in the region’s history. It involved the loss of numerous innocent lives and continues to be remembered with sorrow. This anniversary serves as a reminder of the violence and suffering experienced by the local population.

In April 1999, specifically on the second, Serbian military and police forces undertook a significant operation. They separated approximately five hundred young men and boys from a group of fifteen hundred Kosovo Albanians who had sought refuge from the escalating atrocities within the entire region. These Albanians had fled their homes to escape the violence.

Simultaneously, other members of the group – women, children, and elderly individuals – were directed to travel to Albania for safety. Two days later, on April fourth, a substantial number of the detained young men, consistently encircled by tanks and lacking essential supplies of water and food, were unexpectedly released. Eighty-six individuals were taken into custody, including eleven minors.

Tragically, since this release, none of these men have been observed alive. In 2013, the Humanitarian Law Fund (FDH) initiated a criminal complaint against multiple officers of the Yugoslav Army concerning alleged war crimes in Krala. The situation highlighted the ongoing tensions and human rights concerns within the region during that period.
