Twenty-seven years have passed since the massacre at Burim, near Malishevë.

Today marks 27 years since a pivotal event in Malishevë, specifically the devastating Burim massacre perpetrated by Serbian forces. This horrific incident resulted in the deaths of 42 Albanian civilians, many of whom were brutally mutilated. The Burim massacre remains the largest occurrence within Malishevë during the recent conflict.

Tragically, no individuals have been brought to justice for this crime or any other killings that took place throughout the war. On March 31, 1999, near Vrella e Mëhillit in Burim, Malishevë, 42 civilians lost their lives and suffered horrific injuries. The victims primarily came from the villages of Dragobil and Astrazup, alongside three residents from Suhareka who sought refuge in the area.

During that same day, further civilians were killed and subjected to mutilation in other surrounding villages. The lasting impact of this Burim massacre continues to resonate within the Gjakova Region and the wider Gjakova Local area, highlighting the unresolved consequences of the conflict.
