Chemical Leak at West Virginia Plant Results in Fatalities and Multiple Injuries
Institute, WV – Two individuals have died and nineteen others were hospitalized following a chemical incident at the Catalyst Refiners plant in Institute, West Virginia. Sigman detailed that a chemical reaction involving nitric acid and an unidentified substance was the cause. “A violent chemical reaction occurred, and they reacted immediately too strongly,” Sigman stated during a press conference. He emphasized the heightened danger associated with the beginning or end of chemical processes, noting, “The start or end of a chemical reaction are the most dangerous times.”
Seven individuals sustained injuries as a result of the event.
All injured personnel were transported to local hospitals, with one individual admitted in critical condition.
