UÇK veterans called on protesters in Tirana: Do not misuse UÇK symbols for political purposes

The UÇK Veterans Organization has voiced concerns regarding what it characterizes as ongoing attempts to manipulate the political narrative and inappropriately use UÇK symbols during a recent protest in Tirana. Hysni Gucati, the head of the UÇK Veterans Organization, stated on a Facebook post that it is “unacceptable and an insult to the dignity of our war” for individuals or groups claiming to speak on behalf of the UÇK to repeatedly attempt to diminish the value of their liberation war. According to Gucati, the UÇK Veterans Organization firmly reiterates that the cause of the UÇK is not, and cannot be, utilized as an instrument for any current political agenda or narrow partisan interests.

The organization emphasized the historical significance of the movement while addressing the current public discourse surrounding its legacy. The statement indicates a desire to maintain the historical integrity of the UÇK’s mission. The veterans organization called upon the organizers of the protest to adhere to principles that respect the historical context of the group.

The core message conveyed was a call for separation between the historical struggle represented by the UÇK and any transient political maneuvering. The UÇK Veterans Organization maintained that its focus remains on the principles associated with its founding, rather than becoming entangled in immediate political disputes in Tirana.
