A resident in New Mexico captured footage of an unusual wildlife incident involving a black bear trapped atop a utility pole. The video, which circulated widely online, depicts the animal struggling for breath while positioned on the pole, approximately ten meters high. The bear’s posture showed its front paws gripping behind the pole structure, with its hind legs dangling on either side.
The footage was recorded by Shannon Mullens, who was traveling through a rural area in New Mexico while en route from the state toward Oklahoma. Near the community of Gladstone, Mullens spotted the bear on the utility pole and immediately contacted the appropriate services. During her call, she informed the operator that “a bear is on top of the lighting pole.”
The call center operator indicated that they had received prior reports concerning the animal and confirmed that the state wildlife service had already been notified regarding the situation in New Mexico.
