The U.S. military has initiated new airstrikes against Iran, according to statements from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
These strikes were launched following an attack in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of two American service members. CENTCOM stated that the objective of the military action is to “quickly degrade” the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Furthermore, the strikes are intended to diminish Iran’s capacity to impede the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation follows an incident last Friday where two American personnel were killed while defending against ballistic missile and drone attacks originating from Iran. CENTCOM also reported that one additional service member was missing, while four other service members who had been medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals were subsequently released. The commencement of these new airstrikes against Iran occurred today at 6 p.m.
