Vučić: I will resign in three months – I am already packing my books on the presidency

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has indicated plans to resign from his current office within the next three to four months, or potentially sooner. The statement was made during an interview on Radio Belgrade, according to N1.rs. While speaking about his departure, Vučić alluded to preparations by mentioning, “I have started packing the books in the Presidency.

I have a lot of books and I am thinking about where to put them,” suggesting he is actively preparing to vacate the presidency. Regarding the political timeline, Vučić stated that early elections would take place within a few months. He emphasized that his intention was a complete resignation from the presidential office, rather than merely shortening his existing mandate.

Furthermore, the President said he is contemplating a potential run for the position of Prime Minister and that significant political decisions are anticipated shortly. This announcement marks another instance where the Serbian leader has addressed the possibility of stepping down. Previously, in May, he had also suggested that he could leave office before the conclusion of his term.

He noted that, according to the Serbian Constitution, should a resignation occur, presidential elections would be required within 90 days. The President’s statements suggest a significant transition period is imminent for Serbian governance.
