The “Prishtina” Water Company (KRU) has reported the discovery of significant potable water misuse within the village of Bërnicë. According to a notice issued by KRU Prishtina, company inspectors identified the improper diversion of water intended for residential use. Subsequent laboratory analyses confirmed that the water utilized for irrigation originated directly from the municipal water supply network.
The company stated that the misuse occurred despite local residents reporting deficiencies in the potable water supply meant for household consumption. KRU noted a clear discrepancy: while residents experienced shortages, the available resources were being diverted to maintain landscaping. Specifically, the report highlighted that “dozens of acres of trees were irrigated with potable water stolen from the water supply network.”
The discovery was attributed to the diligent work of the company’s inspection team, which subsequently verified the source of the diverted water through testing.
